Don’t skip mee bandung Muar when you’re in Muar. I repeat. Never ever skip it. Mee Bandung Muar Abu Bakar Hanipah got us so hooked after we tasted it, and its taste was not the only reason we love it. Muar town’s holiday traffic was just as bad as Batu Pahat’s, but we navigated it anyway and successfully found a parking. Then the irritating problem– we need to buy some parking coupons. I left the task to CS and scooted off to Mee Bandung Muar Abu Bakar Hanipah. Mee Bandung Muar Abu Bakar Hanipah was said to be the originator of mee bandung and still follows the hand-down recipe from decades ago. The decolorized signboard is easy to miss but look out for Wah San coffeeshop, where the famous mee bandung maintains their humble stall. The gravy was perfect for me, a remarkable combination of prawns, dried shrimps, spices and chilies. I didn’t even wait for CS, and just finished the whole bowl with gusto! It was so addictive. When CS appeared, and asked how was the noodles, I could only hold a thumbs-up. Seconds later, he too, gobbled the noodles (and gravy) just as enthusiastically as me. For anyone who does not eat beef, you can tell them ahead to exclude beef. Regrettably, time wasn’t on our side and we decided to leave these for next time. I am sure our ‘next time’ won’t be too far away.
